Open Art Exhibition
The Waterside 1st Open Art Exhibition began life when The Waterside Arts
Centre and Creative Industries, Trafford got together
with a newly formed artists group known as the
Trafford Artists’ Network (T.A.N.) Out of these
meetings it was agreed to hold The Waterside 1st Open
Art Exhibition, whereby any artist could submit work
for consideration by the selection panel.
The subsequent exhibition attracted record numbers of
visitors, and The Waterside Arts Centre was able to
offer four of the exhibiting artists Prizes. During
the Official Prize giving, Trafford-based ceramicist,
Brigitte Soltau was awarded The Best Artwork in
Trafford Prize of £500 for her sculpture, Hulme, and
two Highly Awarded Prizes of £400 were awarded to
Christopher Leyland for Remember and
Audrey Hayes for
Exposition.
During the course of the two-month long exhibition,
visitors had the opportunity to vote for their
favorite artwork. The Visitors’ Choice Award of £200
was awarded in April 2008 to Manchester based painter
Joe Simpson for his photo-realist painting, Untitled.
