Open Art Exhibition

Exhibition HallThe Waterside 1st Open Art Exhibition began life when The Waterside Arts Centre and Creative Industries, Trafford got together with a newly formed artists group known as the Trafford Artists’ Network (T.A.N.) Out of these meetings it was agreed to hold The Waterside 1st Open Art Exhibition, whereby any artist could submit work for consideration by the selection panel.

The subsequent exhibition attracted record numbers of visitors, and The Waterside Arts Centre was able to offer four of the exhibiting artists Prizes. During the Official Prize giving, Trafford-based ceramicist, Brigitte Soltau was awarded The Best Artwork in Trafford Prize of £500 for her sculpture, Hulme, and two Highly Awarded Prizes of £400 were awarded to Christopher Leyland for Remember and Audrey Hayes for Exposition.

During the course of the two-month long exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork. The Visitors’ Choice Award of £200 was awarded in April 2008 to Manchester based painter Joe Simpson for his photo-realist painting, Untitled.
